A favorite Pinoy pulutan (beer match) or just pica-pica (finger food). It’s squid sliced into rings, battered and then deep fried. I’m allergic to squid but I can never resist fried calamares. I just bring my anti-allergy medicine. Works just fine for me.

There are many ways Filipinos cook lengua (ox tongue) but I think my favorite is this, Lengua de Pastel. It’s the one with white mushroom sauce.

This is a popular noodle dish in the Philippines that originated from the province of Malabon. Its orange color is mainly because of the seasonings used to give it the strong taste of seafoods. Its ingredients include chicharon, squid, shrimp, and eggs among others. It’s best eaten with puto, and of course…

I cooked this for my husband today, it’s his favorite. I didn’t notice the camera lens was moist from the steam, I took the photo as soon as I got the nilaga out of the pot.

Lumpiang Ubod

Lumpiang sariwa is also a Filipino favorite. It has ubod, which is the middle part of a coconut tree’s body, and some vegetables inside it. It’s usually topped with a sweet brown sauce and sprinkled with crushed peanuts and chopped garlic bits.

It’s part of the very colorful Filipino culinary culture, it’s hard not to see a barbecue stand selling this and other chicken parts in any [...]

I brought this home with me for my husband and I to eat while watching some episodes of NCIS. For manggang hilaw (unripe mango), he sometimes like vinegar and sugar with it. I prefer salt and patis (fish sauce). Bagoong is our middle ground.

I think Pancake House is in dire need of a makeover. Their decor is dowdy, their furniture badly-scuffed, and their menu needs an overhaul (especially the steaks). Well, at least they still get their pancakes right, and this one, which is the only thing I order these days whenever we eat there. Porkchop cooked Viennese [...]

If you like cream puffs, I recommend Beard Papa’s. The crust is very crunchy because they only pump the cream into them when you buy them, so the cream is not sitting in the bread too long. Other cream puffs taste a bit soggy because the cream is already pumped in and it sits in [...]

One of my favorites, Sizzling Seafood’s sinigang na ulo ng salmon sa miso. Sinigang has a sour-based soup, usually with either fish, pork ribs, beef, or shrimp.
